Succesful implementation ESRI ArcFM UT at Delta multi utiliy | Print |  E-mail
Tensing completed the third stage of the IBIS-project at multi-utility company Delta in the Netherlands. Three years after the start of the complete migration from IBM’s GFIS to the ESRI ArcFM_UT based asset management system, electricity, gas, city heating and sewage is now live on the new system. In 2005 Delta selected Tensing for the implementation of ArcFM_UT and for the migration of the data from the outdated TDIS system to the new environment. Because Delta owns and operates its infrastructure, keeping accurate records of their assets in an operational GIS system with up-to-date data is a mandatory requirement.  An immaculate migration of the data was a critical factor in the success of the entire project.

Mark van Rosmalen, Delta’s program manager said “We wanted the best product and the best consultant for this project and we got it.  Having had a long standing relationship with Tensing and knowing their expertise of the existing TDIS system, we knew that Tensing was a reliable and knowledgeable partner. They could also meet the specific requirements we had for the ESRI ArcFM_UT implementation.  There were no doubts in selecting Tensing for the project.”

The migration project, dubbed IBIS by Delta, was very demanding in terms of requirements, complexity and volume. Sophie Verbeek, Tensing’s project manager for IBIS, said “It was a wonderful, broad project. It not only encompasses the ArcFM_UT implementation for all six lines of business within Delta, but spans to include customizations to the base product as well as migration of all asset data.

Additionally we provided ESRI-based custom software, such as call-before-you-dig, extended plotting capabilities and various interfaces to other systems like SAP connector. Delta is the first utility in the Netherlands to rely completely on the ESR ArcFM_UT product suite for all its network related asset management. We are very proud of having delivered a great project.”

The third stage of the IBIS-project is now complete with deployment of electricity, gas, city heating and sewage functionalities. The first stage was data conversion. During the second stage they went live with water and cable.

Mark van Rosmalen said “The IBIS project is one of unmatched scale and capacity within Delta with many unknown factors. Thanks to Tensing’s unsurpassed expertise, a very energetic program and project management team from Delta, a clear line of communication and feedback and the flexibility of everyone involved, the IBIS project was a complete success. We are live, with all data migrated. There are only a few remaining loose ends to tie up. Delta is very confident that this also will be completed in the same cooperative manner we experienced throughout the project.”

With this implementation, Delta is the first utility in the Netherlands to successfully complete a massive migration of software and asset data to ESR ArcFM_UT. Currently Tensing is working on two comparable projects at Westland Energy and Brabant Water.
