As long as man is on earth, he uses the sun and the stars to determine the time and his location on earth. Tensing’s core business is GIS and Mobility. The key question in both GIS and Mobility is always:

What happens Where and When?
The Tensing logo uses the heavens as a reference to this question. This imaginary starry sky evokes reminescences of the constellations that are most important for locating. On the northern hemisphere the Great Bear is used. One leg of the Great Bear has to be extended 5 * to arrive at the Polar Star. The Polar Star can be seen from every point in the northern hemisphere and is used as an approximation of the northern celestial pole.

The southern sky lacks a clearly visable pole star. To determine south, the long axis of the Southern Cross has to be extended 4.5 times. Ancient seafarers, trained in geometry, used a more accurate method. They determined the intersection of the long axis of the Southern Cross with the perpendicular bisector of α- and ß-Centauri.
