Pidpa
Pidpa is one of the largest water companies in Belgium and has been an active user of the Esri ArcGIS platform since 2003. Together we are convinced that and further deepening of the use of GIS will further optimize business processes. Pidpa continuously tries to generate added value by deploying GIS in a wide range of work processes, Tensing assists them in this process.
The need
Pidpa uses geographic information to perform asset management tasks more efficiently, especially when geodata is effectively combined with information from other business applications, such as (SAP). The increasing use and high importance of accurate and up-to-date GIS is becoming more critical. There were a number of items that Pidpa had on their 'GIS wish list':
- Immediate collection of data at field level detail, allowing data to be generated immediately at the time and location to which it applies;
- More options to comprehensively analyze network performance;
- Replacing custom applications with standard functionality and simplifying the IT landscape, allowing Pidpa to perform upgrades more efficiently.
The solution
Between October 2019 and March 2020, a Proof of Concept process was conducted around the Utility Network and Web GIS to test new functionalities and estimate the effort required for data migration. The POC was conducted with support from specialists at Tensing and Esri Netherlands.
The existing data model for the drinking water network in GIS was converted in several iterations to a new data model for use in the Utility Network, and the complete dataset from the geometric network for the municipality was migrated. ArcGIS for Portal was introduced to support the GIS platform approach.
The result
The existing data model for the drinking water network in GIS was converted in several iterations to a new data model for use in the Utility Network, and the complete dataset from the geometric network for the municipality was migrated. ArcGIS for Portal was introduced to support the GIS platform approach.
Equipped with the results and lessons learned from the POC, Tensing and Pidpa worked together toward full integration to the Utility Network.
