Dirk Boerhout

FME Technology Specialist

After getting in contact with Tensing through an old study mate I started as a Young Professional in April of 2022. I graduated cum laude from Utrecht University and gained a Master's degree in Geographic Information Management & Applications only a month prior, but starting in the position of YP meant that I was not done studying. In the first few months, I studied for the necessary knowledge to get certifications in ArcGIS Pro, FME Form and Flow, as well as Python and Agile Scrum methodologies while being supervised by the GIS experts at Tensing.

During this period I also started working at long time Tensing client ProRail. An organization where state-of-the-art ESRI and FME infrastructure and processes are in place, but also plenty of new developments are being made. An exciting first professional GIS environment where I gained experience as an FME developer and server administrator, working with Agile scrum methodologies. More recently I have been working on an exciting new assignment, working in a project team at our client TenneT, designing and implementing the ArcGIS Utility Network to manage all of their assets. Most of my free time is spent on my passion for music; visiting concerts, producing electronic music, DJ'ing or playing guitar in a band, all great ways to wind down!

After a great start and now up and running, I am still expanding my GIS knowledge every day. At Tensing you get the freedom to develop your career towards your own professional interests and the tools to do so effectively. In the future I hope to keep working on implementing sustainable solutions for modern day challenges in the physical space, with a special interest in energy and transportation. I believe a good understanding of geospatial relationships and skilled handling of spatial data can contribute greatly to the sustainable management of our surroundings, especially in a small country like the Netherlands.
